Do you want to be BLESSED?

Before you answer, finish reading this article, before you decide, because you may get what you ask for, but not what you THINK you are asking for!

Modern religion has been trumpeting the message that blessings equal prosperity, appealing to everyone's sense of safety and well being. But, is that really what you are asking for when you pray to be blessed? Are you often disappointed that nothing seems to happen, or that something unpleasant soon occurs?

Or, are you happy with getting the physical things you desire? , but do you know the source of the "blessing"? From whom do you want to receive financial rewards?

One important lesson to be learned from Messiah's temptation in the wilderness is that Satan has the power to give wealth and power to those that follow him [Mat 4:8-9].

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Rabbi Yah'shua never disputed Satan's claim to that power or authority, but yielded to His higher authority.

Then saith Yah'shua unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship Yahweh thy MightyOne, and him only shalt thou serve. [Mat 4:10]

There are two possible explanations. The most obvious is that Messiah told the adversary to worship The Father, which of course would be correct. On the other hand, Messiah was YAHWEH in the flesh, therefore, His response to worshipping Satan may have been verbal jujitsu, meaning Satan had it backward, and that Satan should be worshipping Him, which would also be correct!

But we should not miss the point that Satan as the power to bestow physical blessings in the form of wealth and security. We, however, are not so adroit in facing the temptation of physical "blessings". In fact, we don't need to be offered the world, because we can usually be bought for a lot less. In fact, most people don't care what the source is, as long as they are comfortable. How about you? Would you receive physical blessings from Satan, preferring to NOT know the source?

Comfort, or hardship? Which would you choose?

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. [John 16:33]

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of YAHWEH. [Acts 14:22]

So, if we are asking to be blessed by being in His Kingdom, we are opening ourselves to suffering, as we read in Romans the 5th chapter:

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of Yahweh is shed abroad in our hearts* by the Spirit Sanctified which is given unto us. [Rom 5:3-5]
*That presumes, of course, that you are immersed into Yahweh's great name!

Are you beginning to realize that asking for patience, hope, or any other spiritual attribute is a request for tribulation? Tribulation is the Blessing of YAHWEH!

Now ask yourself what you really wanted. Was it material comfort or spiritual growth? Think about what you have been asking for. If your heart has been led to seek material comfort, then Satan has no problem with helping you out in that department, because he understands that people that are comfortable have no pressing need to change anything. He has you right where he wants you. But, the adversary is capricious, so you may not be getting what you asked for, and YAHWEH isn't honoring your request because you are asking out of the wrong desire for creature comfort. On the other hand, if you have actually been seeking spiritual riches, you are probably wondering what has been happening! Remember:

Mat 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

So it seems that if we are looking for the easy way we are likely to be given the physical blessings we want by the Devil, but if we are seeking the narrow way, we will be find difficulty. Most people chose the easy way. Only a few will endure the hardship that leads to life!

So, praying for blessings is a two-edged sword. If we don't understand what it is we are asking for, we may be asking wrongly.

James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with Yahweh? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of Yahweh.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, Yahweh resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to Yahweh. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to Yahweh, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of YAHWEH, and he shall lift you up.

What does it mean to humble ourselves?

Deuteronomy 8:2 And thou shalt remember all the way which YAHWEH thy MightyOne led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

Ah, to humble ourselves means to submit ourselves to trials and testing in becoming obedient to His Commandments.

Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of YAHWEH doth man live.

And since Messiah quoted from this passage:

, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of YAHWEH. [Mat 4:4]

, there are two things to bear in mind. One, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, and two, you will be judged by every idle word that comes out of your mouth.

Mat 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. [cr Lu 6:45]

And then there is also this, the expansion of The Law from external activity to internal thought:

Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. [cf. Mar 7:21-22]

But if you don't know YAHWEH'S WORD, how will you know what you are going to be judged on? Being judged by every idle word doesn't require a thorough understanding of the scriptures, so there will be no excuses. If you are asking for the wrong things because you don't understand what Yahweh considers "lust", then the likelihood of being judged adversely is nearly 100%! Ignoring the law is dangerous!!

There are many that believe ignoring the law will not result in judgment. That may work in man's world, but not with an all-powerful righteous judge Who guarantees that you will be judged according to His Law, with or without knowledge of His law. So, just as Messiah warned the religious establishment of His day to "search the scriptures", we are admonished to:

Study to shew thyself approved unto Yahweh, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [2 Timothy 2:15]

Being like the Bereans when:

"they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

, the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of Yahweh: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the evangel of Yahweh? [1 Peter 4:17]
